⁷ Next, war broke out in heaven, with Michael^[a] and his angels in combat against the dragon. The dragon and his angels fought back, ⁸ but they were defeated, and they lost their place in heaven. ⁹ The great dragon—the ancient serpent who is called the devil, or Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—was hurled down to earth, and his angels were cast down with him.
